The “Rice Dragon 360” production project is supported by the Ministry of Education’s Forward-Looking Display Technology Introduction and Art Field Construction Promotion Plan. It integrates the expertise of the university’s Department of Design, Department of Music, and Institute of Performing Arts to carry out cross-disciplinary teaching and co-creation. The project explores the numerous possibilities of immersive experiences while incorporating contemporary interpretations into traditional culture.

The inspiration for this project comes from the traditional Hakka custom of arranging white rice to form the figure of the Earth Dragon God, an ancient ritual of sacrifices and blessings. In this modern interpretation, the white rice is transformed into dynamic digital particles and combined with audio-visual and interactive somatosensory technology. Audiences can immerse themselves in a 360-degree projection space, experiencing the Rice Dragon in naked-eye 3D, guiding it with their hands. A special performance, launching on November 2, will feature a performer holding a dragon ball to lead the Rice Dragon in a mesmerizing dance through the air. In two distinct soundscapes, the dragon and the performer engage in a meeting, chasing, pulling, and colliding, creating a captivating tension between virtuality and reality, dragon and human.
