There are many residents jogging and engaging in various activities around this lake at SUN YAT-SEN MEMORIAL HALL during night time. In addition to its commemorative purposes, it is also a park and outdoor activity ground. “Lessons from the Playground” presents the freedom of public space through three-dimensional installations and interaction with the audience.
The artists had street interviews around the pond area at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall. By observing and recording the features and details of each person’s life, they then transformed these groups of people into inflatable installations. Through a localized field survey, in addition to reflecting the demographic composition and lifestyles of this area, they also interacted with the audience to present the freedom and fluidity of public space.
This work is a cooperation between Ping-Fan Chiang and James Teng. Bridge Hole is led by architects and artists with an interest in contemporary art and urban intervention. Inititated in 2018, we research, interact, discuss, produce and exhibit in the public realm. Bridge Hole, as a site for knowledge production, also became a project that faciliated cultural mediation between the artists, audience, and community residents. In documenting diverse exchanges within a unique urban space, Bridge Hole sought to inspire new possibilities and imaginations for ways of living.
