About this project
The curatorial theme this year is “Welcome to SONGYANLAND,” with a focus placed on co-sharing and metamorphosis. This year marks the first year since the festival has transitioned into a triennial, and presented are 1 core exhibition space and artworks by 9 artists/collectives. The core exhibition begins by seeing the park as a base, and it then extends to plans that transform and extensively examine the cultural life circuit of the community, with the historical tobacco plant’s history also revisited. Through the festival, local energies are united together, with public participation expanded to respond to the developmental history of the park itself and its neighboring communities. With efforts to restore local culture and sustainably protect the ecosystem, local knowledge is hereby constructed and the archive of the site continuously expanded into the future.
The following 9 contemporary artists have created site-specific works for the festival: Anang Saptoto, Yoshiaki Kaihatsu, Ding Chien-Chung, Wu Bo-Sianing, Chuang Che-Wei, Hsieh Feng-Chen, Chan Chiao-Chun, Zheng Jun-Peng, and Les Petites Choses Production. With the world opening up once again and international tourists making their way back, on view for the first time in this year’s exhibition are artworks by international artists, with different perspectives proposed using art as our shared language. The artworks respond to the ethos of the site, its history of labor and production, its industrial context, as well as the ecosystem, sound, and technological development that are currently observed in the park, with its course of metamorphosis throughout different moments in time collectively shared.
