ABOUT

ABOUT NUIT BLANCHE TAIPEI

“Nuit Blanche” is a global nighttime urban arts festival that originated in Paris, France, in 2002. Centered on urban innovation and the reimagining of public space, the festival invites people to experience the city after dark through three defining features: an all-night program, free admission, and public participation. By bringing art into streets and urban spaces, Nuit Blanche creates new ways for people to encounter both art and the city.
‍
Taipei officially introduced Nuit Blanche in 2016 through the Department of Cultural Affairs. Its inaugural edition drew more than 200,000 visitors, with attendance later growing to over 500,000, making it one of Taipei’s most representative cultural events. Held annually from late October to early November, Nuit Blanche Taipei transforms urban spaces through art, turning the city into a large-scale, one-night-only museum.
‍
In 2026, Nuit Blanche Taipei presents “NIGHT KA SHI” as its curatorial theme, taking inspiration from Taiwan’s familiar Nakashi culture to reconsider how urban culture moves, evolves, and continues within contemporary life. Long present in night markets, banquets, and streets, Nakashi is characterized by mobility, immediacy, sociability, and hybridity, and is deeply shaped by the places and relationships in which it takes form.
‍
“NIGHT KA SHI” does not seek to recreate Nakashi as it once was. Instead, it translates its spirit of movement, spontaneity, and collective participation into new possibilities for a nighttime public art festival, inviting audiences to rediscover Taipei after dark through encounters between art, sound, people, and the city itself.
