Mu-En Ma works primarily with installation and video, bringing reflections on contemporary technology into specific sites and creating a kind of vacuum between people, place, and artistic practice.
Ma uses kinetic installation as a way to question the silence that remains beneath efficiency, technology, and the endless routines of everyday life. Through a method he describes as “extension,” his work develops a dialogue between existence and subjectivity in the digital age. His recent works focus on searching for places where people may dwell and find a sense of belonging in the present.
24/7 explores a world in which technology has gone beyond the night. Pauses do not stop, and rest does not rest. Electric light and the sun are now different only in wattage. Under such conditions, is night still different from day? In a world that never truly stops, what do rest and pause mean?
