Po-Chin Wang, born in Taipei in 2003, is currently pursuing an MFA in Painting at Taipei National University of the Arts. His practice explores the translation between images and painting, drawing from algorithmically curated social media imagery, everyday experiences, and screen-based viewing habits. Through processes of image extraction, collage, recombination, and painterly transformation, he examines habitual modes of looking and the visual order produced by the algorithmic circulation of images in contemporary digital culture.
New System Sample 7: The Correct Way — Do You Understand the Perspective Radiating from a Banana? re-edits internet memes, photographs of everyday scenes, and compositional principles, placing absurd meme imagery and everyday environments within a single scene. Different images are connected through a cinematic, horizontal pan-like composition. Rather than presenting the original spatial perspective of the images, the work appropriates the concept of perspective and relocates it to the image frame as the lowest layer of the edited composition. In this process, images are reorganized through a painterly mode of viewing, blurring the boundary between the ways images and paintings are seen.
