Jui-Chung Yao graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at Taipei National University of the Arts in 1994. For many years, he has adopted a creative approach resembling the structure of a DNA double helix, with multiple strands intertwining like braided hair to develop themes of “body politics” and “spatial politics.” Through photographic excavations of traces of power in operation, he has developed the concept of “political geography” within specific historical contexts, suggesting that all ruins are products of failed power struggles. In recent years, his practice has turned toward the spectacle of desire in the realm of the occult. He is currently an adjunct professor in the Department of Fine Arts at Taipei National University of the Arts.

巨神在哪裡?
Where are the Gods?

Where are the Gods? features 100 black-and-white outdoor photographs taken by the artist over the past decade, titled “Incarnation,” depicting various deities and stories from across Taiwan. Dressed as the City God, the artist hosts a riddle-solving session and invites viewers to participate. Those who answer correctly receive a free silver gelatin print, enlarged by the artist himself in his darkroom. Through humor and wit, viewers learn about the local gods and legends of their hometowns.
